URBAN AND OUTDOOR ACTION

Turku, Rauma, Hanko and Vaasa are a few of the cities scattered along Finland’s coastline. All have modern urban offerings, as well as a score of sights relating to coastal culture and local maritime heritage.

The vast and varying natural terrain is ideal for boating, cycling and hiking. Cottage life on the picturesque islands involves the inevitable barbecuing, sauna, swimming and, most importantly, some serious kicking back.

 

TRY ÅLAND ISLANDS

The Åland islands are well worth a visit for a glimpse of life in the archipelago. This autonomous region of Finland consisting of 6,500 islands lies between Sweden and Finland in the northern part of the Baltic Sea. The only town is Mariehamn with 11,000 inhabitants, while the other 16,500 residents are spread across 65 inhabited islands.

Åland, the rest of the coastal area and the archipelago are great for touring by car. Idyllic island life, towns where past meets present and great cuisine en route make for a drive not easily forgotten."
